Sara Zafar

Bar Admissions
Kansas, 2009

Sara strives to meet clients where they are and help guide them on their path forward and attain the best outcomes in their cases. Sara Zafar is also a fierce advocate for marginalized, underserved, and unrepresented populations. Sara is a subject-matter expert in the field of representing survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in legal matters, and one of the only attorneys in the state of Kansas with the training, knowledge, and qualifications to do so. Her experience and expertise allow Sara to effectively and efficiently represent her clients who may have complex and overlapping legal needs.

Sara was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She received her B.A. in History from the University of Kansas, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law. She is licensed with the Supreme Court of Kansas and the United States District Court, District of Kansas. Sara is a member of the Kansas Bar Association Board of Governors, Kansas Women Attorneys Association Council, Wichita Bar Association, chair of the WBA Professional Diversity Committee, and Past President of the Wichita Women Attorneys Association.

Prior to joining Franklin Law Office, Sara was the Title IX Coordinator at Wichita State University, and she brings her extensive knowledge of Title IX, Title VII, and special education issues to Franklin Law and its clients. Sara was also an attorney with Kansas Legal Services in both their Wichita and Hutchinson offices. While at Kansas Legal Services, she worked primarily with survivors of domestic and sexual violence in several counties across the state to provide holistic legal representation, including assisting with protection orders, family law, criminal process advocacy, housing, and other legal matters arising from a crime. Sara also aided those seeking Social Security benefits and represented parents and children in Child in Need of Care cases. Sara has also served as the Staff Attorney and Legal Assistance to Victims Attorney at the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence in Topeka, where she was integral in developing internal and external policy and state legislation, including the 2013 bill eliminating the statute of limitations in rape cases. Sara has also served as a volunteer victim advocate for the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center.

Sara lives in Wichita with her husband, three children, and two dogs. She is an avid baker, runs the occasional 5K, and enjoys riding her bicycle around town. She is a member of the Wichita Family Crisis Center Board and is active in the local community. Sara also enjoys teaching, training, and public speaking regarding her work and experience.
